Food For Thought- On Excellence

Friday, February 26, 2010

Carry this quote with you and see if it doesn't make a difference in your performance and motivation levels:

“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”

--Aristotle

Webster dictionary defines excellence as "the quality of being excellent;the state of possessing good qualities in an eminent degree; exalted merit; superiority in virtue".

Aristotle was on to something when he said the above quote. Excellence doesn't come from trying once and hoping you get something right. It's a habit--a way of life. When you strive for excellence (not necessarily perfection) in your everyday life, you are sending the message that you value yourself, your work, and the people around you. Plus, it just helps you to be a better person overall.

I wake up everyday with the goal of excellence in my schoolwork, attire, and the way I carry myself. Having excellence in your life doesn't mean that things won't go wrong. Believe me, things will definitely go wrong! That's just life. But it does mean that you will start striving for improvement in every aspect in your life. And once you see positive changes, you'll be even more motivated.

Personal growth is a wonderful thing.
