Hair Inspirations

Sunday, February 28, 2010
I am transitioning from relaxed to natural hair, and I decided to post some of my hair inspirations. I love their hair!

Joy Denalane (german singer)

Sabina Karlsson (Swedish model). Don't you love her hair color? It almost makes me want to dye mine, but I won't even dye it while it's relaxed! I've witnessed too many of my friends' horror stories!

An Oromo (Ethiopian) woman. Her twists are so pretty!

Corinne Bailey Rae (U.K singer)

Laura Izibor (singer)

Gabrielle Kniery (a model)

A girl from lecoil.tumblr.com. Someone told me that she looks like me in an alternate universe lol.

Erykah Badu. Yep, I know it's a wig, but you gotta love it!

 Jill Scott.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE her music, but that's a rant best saved for another post. :)

Janelle Monae

Oh my God, I love this girl. Her voice is amazing, not to mention the fact that she actually has a creative cell in her brain! I'm so tired of listening to bubble gum, pop-candy trash on the radio. This girl's music is far from trash. It's exciting and fun, and it makes you think.
You have to use your imagination when you listen to her because she transports you to another time and place that has a fun sci-fi theme.
She becomes a character in her music, an android in the future named Cyndi Mayweather who is on the run because she fell in love with a human.

Her track "Many Moons" is my favorite song. I could listen to it everyday and still love it. Check out the video here:

Oh, and I definitely have to give her a shout out for her hair. Natural Hair Rocks!! I love her style!

Check her out!

Food For Thought- On Excellence

Friday, February 26, 2010

Carry this quote with you and see if it doesn't make a difference in your performance and motivation levels:

“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”

--Aristotle

Webster dictionary defines excellence as "the quality of being excellent;the state of possessing good qualities in an eminent degree; exalted merit; superiority in virtue".

Aristotle was on to something when he said the above quote. Excellence doesn't come from trying once and hoping you get something right. It's a habit--a way of life. When you strive for excellence (not necessarily perfection) in your everyday life, you are sending the message that you value yourself, your work, and the people around you. Plus, it just helps you to be a better person overall.

I wake up everyday with the goal of excellence in my schoolwork, attire, and the way I carry myself. Having excellence in your life doesn't mean that things won't go wrong. Believe me, things will definitely go wrong! That's just life. But it does mean that you will start striving for improvement in every aspect in your life. And once you see positive changes, you'll be even more motivated.

Personal growth is a wonderful thing.

Q: What are some of your tricks for self-motivation?

ABDC

Thursday, February 25, 2010
America's Best Dance Crew = LOVE IT! That's all I need to say right now. :)

My two favorites right now are Saltare and Heavy Impact.

I'm really impressed by Saltare just because they have a permanent prop. They have to be really creative, not to mention talented, in order to dance with ropes every time. And I agree with Omarion about them. The timing factor plays a big part between them getting it in, or  tripping in the ropes and looking like fools. LOL.  But I like them, so I hope they do well.

Heavy Impact? I'm just glad to see some big boys getting down. It's refreshing and interesting because they can move just like everyone else on that show. I think I'm rooting for them just because they're the first crew like that.

Anywhoo, next week's episode will be about Lady Gaga, and I LOVE her, so I'm excited to see how it plays out. Especially for the all-guy crews. I wonder if they'll have to dress up like her, freakish costumes and all.

Like I said, I'm excited to see how the crews are gonna pull this off. LMAO!
